Delivery, Placement & Power

Refrigerated containers require a firm, reasonably level placement area with adequate access for delivery. Because the refrigeration unit also requires a suitable electrical connection, power availability and container location should be planned before delivery. Our team can help you review site access, placement, and power requirements before your refrigerated container arrives.

Before Your Reefer Arrives

  • Clear the delivery area of vehicles, equipment, and debris
  • Make sure the placement area is firm and reasonably level
  • Check for overhead wires, trees, and other obstructions
  • Confirm a suitable electrical connection is available
  • Know exactly where you want the refrigerated container positioned

Refrigerated Container FAQs

What temperatures can a refrigerated container maintain?

Our refrigerated containers can maintain temperatures ranging from approximately -30°F to +80°F, making them suitable for both frozen and chilled storage applications. Select units are capable of temperatures as low as -40°F. Our team can help you select the appropriate unit and temperature setting based on your specific cold storage needs.

Our refrigerated containers require 3-phase electrical power. Depending on the unit, power requirements are either 460V, 3-phase, 30 amp or 230V, 3-phase, 60 amp. The proper electrical connection must be available at the site before the container is placed into operation. If you’re unsure which power setup you need, our team can help confirm the requirements for your rental unit.

Most of our refrigerated containers are equipped with interior lighting for added convenience. Depending on the unit, containers may also feature either a flat floor or a T-bar floor. T-bar floors are designed to allow airflow underneath stored products, while flat floors can provide a smoother surface for loading, unloading, and certain storage applications. Available features may vary by unit, so let us know what your application requires when requesting a rental.

Rental periods can be tailored to your needs, whether you require additional refrigerated storage for a short-term project, seasonal demand, or an ongoing long-term application. Contact Steel-Boxes to discuss your expected rental period and we’ll help determine the best option for your operation.

Yes, refrigerated containers can be relocated when needed; however, Steel-Boxes does not move loaded containers. The container must be completely emptied before it can be picked up or relocated. Please contact us in advance so we can coordinate the move and confirm access, placement, and electrical requirements at the new location.

If you experience an issue with your refrigerated container, contact Steel-Boxes for support. We’ll first work with you over the phone to troubleshoot the problem and, when possible, get the unit back up and running quickly.
